Shooting

$40.00

SHOOTING is a tragic and bittersweet story about my mother, who introduced me to photography at a young age, only to be shot to death by a mentally ill man a few years later. Because of the trauma of the shooting, I walked away from photography for forty years, during which time the impacts of the trauma of the shooting wreaked havoc on my life. After rediscovering photography, my life was changed dramatically. “SHOOTING” is a photo essay that tells the story of murder, trauma, dysfunction, and recovery. The book includes an essay approximately 30 pages in length revealing the details leading up to, during, and after the bizarre shooting death of my mother.

The essay is written from various perspectives in my life, including those of a 6-year-old, 9-year-old, teenager, young man, middle-aged man, and now as a 70-year-old man. The book contains 142 pages with 73 b&w photographs, including family photographs from the 1950’s and 1960’s, and photographs of mine that were made during the last twenty years.

This beautiful coffee-table art photography book is 12”x12” with archival- quality paper, a stunning photograph of my mother on the front cover, and a synopsis of the book on the back cover. The book addresses the continuing ease of access to guns by the mentally ill and the ability of art (in my case, photography) to heal trauma.
